According to People, He was arrested for his reported ties with Jeffery Epstein which led to misconduct in the public office. He reportedly shared confidential information with the convicted sex offender when he served as a U.K. trade envoy.

His two homes were searched, however, he denied any relation to Epstein and he was released from police custody after 11 hours.

The former prince has been accused of using his position and his relationship with Epstein to commit crimes of sexual misconduct. Virginia Giuffre was reportedly trafficked by Epstein and sent to London where she was raped by the former royal at the age of 17 in 2022, Per Page Six. He denied these charges and made a multimillion dollar payment to Giuffre. Giuffre died by suicide in April of 2025.

As a result of this scandal, King Charles stripped his brother of his royal title in 2024 and removed him from the Royal Lodge he called home.

Wright said, “Our team of very experienced detectives are working meticulously through a significant amount of information that has come in from the public and other sources.”

Though Andrew has not been imprisoned for the reported crimes, he no longer holds royal status. King Charles ensured he could not use his position for crime of misconduct. He is not known as Prince Andrew, but simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
