During a live interview on Friday, May 22, Prince William shares an emotional update on his wife, Kate Middleton, about her recovery from cancer, as well as her recent trip to Italy.
“She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife, and, literally, our family couldn’t cope without her, so she’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant,” the Prince of Wales said to Jamie Theakston and Manada Holden in the U.K. radio show, Heart Breakfast.
Prince William went on to talk about her recent trip to Italy, which was linked to the activities of the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which Middleton established in 2021. The trip was her first significant international engagement since completing her cancer treatment and recuperation, which was a huge milestone.
The Prince of Wales boasted about her, saying he’s “so proud” of her. “I’m very, very proud. She’s been amazing; she’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She has been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, so I’m really glad it went really well.”
When asked about her future trips, he said, “She’s sort of edging herself back into doing more of those trips,” while acknowledging that such engagements demand considerable effort and can “take it out of you.”
“We have to balance that and make sure she’s okay and rested, but she’s in good form.”
Back at the beginning of 2025, Kate announced that she was in remission from cancer after completing chemotherapy treatment. She said at the time, “It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery.”
But thankfully, she’s recovered and just successfully took a trip to Italy’s northern city, Reggio Emilia, marking a crucial moment in her new chapter of life.
