Kim Kardashian and her mom, Kris Jenner, have suffered a setback in their legal battle with Ray J.
After submitting a plea to keep information about the 2023 settlement with Ray J secret, the judge denied their request, asking for unredacted versions.
Request to Seal Documents Denied
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied Kim and Kris’ request to seal certain documents, including the 2023 settlement with Ray J.
The judge ruled that Kim and Kris failed to present sufficient evidence that the private deal going public would cause them harm.
The documents also revealed that the judge rejected their request to seal the 2023 deal and related findings.
When they filed the plea, Ray J opposed the request, and the judge agreed. He is ordering Kim and Kris to file unredacted versions of the deal.
Kim and Kris’s Plea Request
Kim and Kris, a few weeks ago, went to court with a plea to keep documents related to the sex tape and those submitted by Ray J under wraps.
Their lawyers offered a statement, saying, “The agreement resolved highly sensitive matters that the parties explicitly agreed to keep confidential in order to protect their families from public disclosure and respect these sensitive matters.”
However, their efforts have been revealed to be in vain.
The Lawsuit with Ray J

The lawsuit with Ray J started all the way back in October 2025.
Kim and Kris sued Ray J, claiming he defamed them by stating the feds were looking into the mother-daughter duo. Both women denied the claims.
Ray J then filed a countersuit against Kim and Kris, alleging they breached a secret 2023 deal they configured over the infamous sex tape. Ray J added that, allegedly, he was paid $6 million to stay quiet about the sex tape forever.
Kim and Kris violated that deal when they talked about the sex tape in an episode of their show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, according to Ray J.
As of now, the Kardashian family has not confirmed their payment of $6 million to keep Ray J quiet.
