Kardashians and Ray J Continue Legal Dispute Over 2007 Tape

The long-simmering legal battle between the Kardashian family and Ray J concerning the 2007 sex tape continues.

The battle picked up speed this week with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner filing sworn declarations denying the tape’s release. Ray J fired back and accused them of perjury.

Kardashians Denying Under Oath

Documents were filed on Tuesday in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Kardashian called Ray J‘s claim that she and her mother conspired to release the sex tape footage for publicity “a lie.”

She said, “His claim that I had a plan with my mother and others to release a sex tape, defraud the public and file a ‘fake’ lawsuit against the porn company that released it to ‘create buzz’ is a lie.”

Jenner also added the claims were “absolutely false,” and that she did not “ask, make, encourage or assist my daughter Kim in filming any sex tape or decide what tape to release, as Defendant further outrageously claimed in his cross-complaint.”

Jenner also said that it “is not only entirely untrue but deeply offensive and harmful and has haunted me for decades,” and she was “absolutely heartbroken, crushed and devastated as a mother to see my daughter in this situation where her most intimate and private moments were exposed to the world.”

She finished her statement by saying, “In no world would I ever be involved in any way, shape or form in peddling any tapes of my daughter like this. Defendant’s insinuations to the contrary are utterly false and disgusting.”

Both Kim’s and Kris’s statements were made under oath.

Ray J Claiming They Lied

Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood Jr., claimed the mother-daughter declarations were complete lies and fabrications.

He claims he personally sat in a room with Kardashian, Jenner, and executives from Vivid Entertainment to negotiate a deal for three separate tapes.

Ray J also alleged that Jenner encouraged him to make one of the recordings “dirtier.”

Ray J’s attorney, Howard King, called their sworn declarations “demonstrably false,” and called out Kim’s goal of passing the bar exam. He warned that false statements “could subject her to criminal perjury prosecution.”

Bringing in Steve Hirsch

Howard King also revealed to TMZ that if Kardashian or Jenner continues denying they worked with Vivid Entertainment boss Steve Hirsch to release the tape, King’s team would call Hirsch himself to testify.

King claims Hirsch could confirm the role Kim and Kris played in orchestrating the tape’s rollout all the way back in 2007.

However, in old interviews, Hirsch has mentioned that Kris had no role in selling the tape.

The legal battle started in October 2025 when Kardashian and Jenner filed a defamation lawsuit against Ray J. The defamation was connected to allegations that the Kardashian family was under investigation for racketeering.

Within the lawsuit, they accused Ray J of a “reckless disregard for the truth.”

The following month, Ray J filed a countersuit and response and denied all of their allegations, calling it “a public relations charade” filled with “malicious falsehoods about Norwood” that is “not about defamation” but “about publicity, power and punishment.”

He also claimed that Kardashian and Jenner committed a breach of contract. They allegedly violated the settlement they entered into in 2023 over the sex tape, which they knowingly released.

Ray J asked the court to dismiss the defamation lawsuit. He is also seeking $1 million in damages, attorney’s fees, and additional relief.

All in all, both sides are asking a judge to throw out the other’s claims. A ruling on Ray J’s dismissal is expected soon.
