Fan-favorites Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman from Love on the Spectrum have reportedly split after nearly five years together.
Wrong Timing
According to the US Sun, the main reason for the split is that the pair couldn’t get on the same page about marriage. Romeo was ready, but Isaacman was not.
An insider shared on Thursday, “Sadly, it’s true that David and Abbey broke up. They couldn’t come to an agreement on when to get married. She was ready years ago, he still needed time.”
Another source added that Isaacman was “doing very well,” but neither has responded to outlets about the breakup.
The Idea of Marriage
Even though the pair called it quits over a marital disagreement, Romeo shared with Love on the Spectrum producers on season 4 that she and Isaacman weren’t ready to get married.
She told People, “We already feel like we’re already married in our hearts.”
She added, “I don’t want to be a divorced lady like my mom, so that’s why I don’t want to rush it, take my time to get married.”
However, she did share with her mother, Christine, that she wanted “to be a bride so badly.”
Romeo and her mother, Christine, even talked about marriage on The Unplanned Podcast in March 2025.
“It doesn’t have to be in the traditional sense of what a neurotypical person would make it look like,” Christine said to Romeo. “You can have your place, he can still have his place. You can still do what you do until you’re ready to move in together … so that they can make that commitment without having it to upheaval everything else.”
Fans may also remember a brief statement about marriage in the show, when Romeo and Isaacman learned of costars Madison Marilla and Tyler White’s engagement.
Romeo stated, “Hopefully we’re next!”
Isaacman replied, “We can only be engaged whenever the time is right.”
The Couple’s Love Story
Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman first met on the initial season of Love on the Spectrum in 2021. The pair was on all four seasons of the series, starting their relationship with a first date at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
They were the show’s longest-standing couple.
Most recently, they marked their four-year anniversary on July 12, 2025, with Romeo posting a clip to Instagram of Isaacman giving her a diamond bracelet from Brilliant Earth.
She shared another post on Instagram in December 2025, with the pair visiting Universal Studios. Romeo captioned the post, “We’ve loved having an annual pass.”
Romeo shared other parts of their relationship with We Need to Talk in March 2026, saying they enjoyed visiting places together, such as the L.A. Zoo, Disneyland, Universal Studios, and the Griffith Observatory.
She shared, “He says things that make me feel good [and] he covers my ears when there’s a certain noise I don’t like.”
Bonding Over Autism
Romeo has previously shared her connection and relationship to Isaacman. They bonded over their shared conditions of autism and synesthesia.
In an interview with Today in 2025, she stated, “We understand each other [and] the way our minds work. We’re kind and patient with each other and we’re our true selves.”
Romeo even put her heart into song, writing a tune for Isaacman titled “Boyfriend Forever.” Some of the lyrics include, “You understand me, remind me to breathe / Being with you is easy, you’re just who I need … I wanna be your girlfriend forever / Will you be my boyfriend?”
