Mick Jagger’s Daughter Jade Shares Experience of Living in the “Shadow”

Jade Jagger, one of Mick Jagger’s eight children, is sharing her experiences of growing up and living in the “shadow” of her Rolling Stones father.

However, she was able to carve her own path and become successful in her own right.

Carrying the Jagger Name

In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Jade Jagger opened up about the pressure and expectations that came with having the last name Jagger.

“Carrying the Jagger surname has, at times, been a real challenge,” she shared. “Sometimes it can feel like quite a weight to bear, because it comes with so many expectations and constant comparisons.”

However, with time, this feeling has faded. Jade pointed out that “the younger generation doesn’t really associate the name with family history or legacy anymore.”

Instead, they are associating the name with the Maroon 5 song “Moves Like Jagger,” which is totally fine with Jade.

“That’s actually lightened the pressure quite a bit compared with how it used to feel,” she admits.

While all children with famous parents deal with their legacy differently, Jade claims that she’s “found that self-acceptance is the key to handling it in a healthy way.”

Growing Up in the Jagger Household

Along with her current relationship with her last name, Jade talked about how it was growing up with such a famous father.

“Growing up with a dad who has achieved so much meant living in his shadow. It was a complicated experience, but also a formative one, as it forced me to carve out my own path,” she commented.

Along with having to carve out her own limelight, Jade reflected on her unconventional childhood. Most of her time was spent traveling while her father toured the globe, an experience many kids don’t understand.

While today, she sees the experience as being “a bit of a gypsy,” during that time, Jade didn’t know any different and thought it was normal.

By following her dad around on tours, Jade was exposed to many different cultures, which she is grateful for, as it shaped the person she is today.

Carving Her Own Path

Jade Jagger has found her own success in life as a designer, artist, entrepreneur, and former model.

During her interview, she talked about switching from painting to jewelry making. That change redefined what “success” meant to her.

“To me, success is about accepting what I’m capable of achieving and feeling genuinely happy with the goals I set for myself – and the way I manage to reach them.”

Jade started as a painter dabbling with gold leaf, which led her to gold wire from her suppliers. Experimenting with the wire, Jade turned to jewelry and a “real fascination with bead embroidery.”

For both fields, Jade has some common themes and designs she pulls from for inspiration. These include “being drawn to precious materials, like lapis lazuli and gold leaf, applying traditional Renaissance techniques to both [her] paintings and [her] jewelry designs.”

Jade has two kids of her own: Assisi (33) with ex Piers Jackson and Ray (11) with husband Adrian Fillary.
