In response to this wholesome video, Taylor Swift sent her an autographed guitar and a personalized note.
After hearing her new neighbor play guitar outside, 8-year-old Madeline threw him a paper airplane with a note, saying, “Hi! I heard you playing guitar. I am doing my homework and I wanted to know if you can play Taylor Swift.”
After receiving the note, 26-year-old Ethan Hayes played Swift’s famous hit “Love Story” as Madeline watched and sang along from her window. Natalie’s mother shared the sweet moment on TikTok with the caption, “Pretty sure we hit the neighbor lottery 🫶🥹🎸.”
Per People, the family woke up the next morning to 20,000 TikToks views. As of Wednesday, May 27, the video has amassed 3.7 million views. One of those views was Taylor Swift herself.
In response to the video, Swift surprised the young fan with an autographed guitar and a personalized message. Per Page Six, she wrote to Madeline saying, “I just wanted to let you know that it made me SO happy that you asked your neighbor to play my song for you … I am sending you your own guitar in case you ever want to learn too!”

While Hayes admitted to not being a diehard Swiftie, he also received a guitar in response to his viral appearance online. According to People, after Taylor Swift’s team reached out to Hayes asking to send him something, he said, “I was expecting maybe a signed poster or something. And then she sent us guitars, which is insane.”
As a full-time musician, Hayes has gained thousands of followers from the experience. After an overwhelmingly positive response, he described it as “just a really wholesome situation that I’m really grateful to be a part of.”

The neighbors have gotten to know each other better after the wholesome encounter. According to WKYC, Ethan shared: “What are we if we don’t have each other? Community is one of the most important things. As things get hard, it’s always nice to have somebody to lean on.”
As they look back on the experience, these neighbors walk away with guitars, followers, and most importantly, friendship.
