Actresses Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair reunite for the 25th Anniversary celebration of Legally Blonde. The stars took to the red carpet for “Elle World” in New York on Saturday.
Elle World was a free one-day event celebrating the 25th Anniversary, as well as Prime Video’s new prequel show Elle, which premieres July 1st.
During the event, Reese Witherspoon wore a pink satin Prada dress, embodying the fun personality and style of her character, Elle Woods.
Selma Blair, who played Vivian Kensington, almost made an appearance. Despite their on-screen rivalry, the two actresses were seen smiling and posing together on the red carpet.
Other notable appearances included Ali Larter, who played Brook Taylor-Windham, and Jenifer Coolidge, who portrayed the lovable Paulette Bonafonté.
Witherspoon was also seen posing alongside Lexi Minetree, who is reviving her character in the upcoming series.
The iconic film follows fashion merchandising sorority sister Elle Woods as she attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, by getting into Harvard Law School. As she navigates the challenges of law school, Woods realizes she is capable of much more than she believes. She works to prove Larter’s character innocent of murder.
The movie was released in July 2001, earning $141,976,594 at the box office worldwide, per Page Six.
The new series will showcase Elle’s life before college, as her family moves from California to Seattle. Fans will learn that Harvard wasn’t the first time Elle felt out of place. Navigating the challenges of high school in a new city may have been challenging for Woods, but it made her into the character we know and love today.
Reese Witherspoon shared a video on her Instagram of her talking about Minetree’s audition for the role of Elle. She began to tear up, saying, “I could not be more proud to pass the baton–or the pink torch–to Lexi Minetree as the new Elle Woods.”
Minetree left a comment, saying, “Thank you endlessly, Reese.”
According to People, the red carpet reunion was not the first part of the Legally Blonde anniversary celebration. The iconic film reappeared in theaters nationwide on May 24 and May 27.
After rewatching the film on the big screen and seeing their favorite stars reunite, fans are prepared for the Elle series premiere on July 1.
