Hilary Duff’s husband, musician Matthew Koma, is getting in on the action.
Koma went to his wife’s aid by jumping into the Ashley Tisdale “toxic mom group” chatter. A day later, Koma posts on social media, mocking Tisdale’s original Instagram Story.
What happened? Keep reading to learn all the details below.
Ashley Tisdale Leaving Mom Group
Tisdale posted an essay in The Cut centering on joining a mom group, the excitement she felt, and the eventual toxicity that made her leave.
She keeps her former friend group anonymous in the piece. However, she does bring to light some interesting details about the mystery moms.
One section of her essay reads, “If a mom group consistently leaves you feeling hurt, drained or left out, it’s not the mom group for you. Choosing to step away doesn’t make you mean or judgmental. It makes you honest with yourself. It’s also worth remembering that friendships, like all relationships, have seasons.”
Titled “You’re Allowed to Leave Your Mom Group,” the essay really touched upon the idea that “mom groups can turn toxic.” She explains it’s “not because the moms themselves are toxic people, but because the dynamic shifts into an ugly place with mean-girl behavior.”
While she originally made excuses as to why she wasn’t being invited to some group hangouts, she later decided that leaving would be better. Why was she being left out? Tisdale doesn’t know, and she “probably never will.”
Matthew Koma’s Retaliation
While Tisdale never mentioned any names in her essay or social media posts, the media attention surrounding the post has drawn retaliation.
This comes in the form of Matthew Koma, Hilary Duff’s husband.
After her original post, Koma posted a photo of himself photoshopped onto Tisdale’s body. In the Instagram Story post, he added The Cut’s logo and a fictional headline.
It read: “When You’re The Most Self Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers.” A sub-headline on the post continued the barrage, adding “A Mom Group Tell All Through A Father’s Eyes.”
The finishing touch?
A caption that said, “Read my new interview with @TheCut.” Just a day after Tisdale’s post, it is a direct slam at Tisdale’s personal essay and decision.
Fan Reactions
Fan reactions have been varied between Tisdale’s and Koma’s posts.
Some are soaking up the drama, stating, “My 2000s self is invested in this,” and “We really are just reliving the early 2000s.”
Another understood the toxic mom aura, posting “For anyone who’s never been in a Facebook mommy group before…this is it.”
Many users are shocked by Matthew Koma’s response. Especially since Tisdale never explicitly “called out” his wife. One X post read, “I mean I hear him and I’m all for protecting your wife… but like that’s between the women folk my guy.”
Another seconded the thought on Reddit, adding, “Why is the husband responding to this, that feels kind of weird.”
To add to the fire, Tisdale’s rep says that the speculation is wrong. The post is not about Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, or Meghan Trainor.
