Lizzo is putting new rumors associated with Taylor Swift to rest, clapping back at social media users.
Putting Rumors to Rest
On May 23rd, Lizzo (aka Melissa Jefferson), responded to a fan’s comment that accused her of “talking s—” about Taylor Swift.
A user wrote on X on May 22nd, “The Life Of A Showgirl + MY FACE HURTS FROM SMILING — 4.005M,” referring to Swift’s latest album. Then they referenced Lizzo’s mixtape, “ICEMAN + MAID OF HONOUR + HABIBTI — 683k.” The post also included a clip from her “STFU” music video.
Lizzo then reshared the post, asking users to clarify what the X post meant: “Can someone explain what this means?”
One snide user replied, “It means all that s— talking you did about Tay finally caught up to you.”
Lizzo immediately clapped back at the comment.
She wrote, “Are you well? First of all I have never talked s— about Taylor Swift— also while we on the subject I’ve never talked s— about any artist. Just because I mention an artist by name does not mean I’m talking s—— grow tf up pls.”
Swift Shout-Out
Not only does Lizzo respect Swift, but she recently gave her a shout-out while speaking about her latest single, “Bitch,” on the May 15th episode of Genius Verified.
During the interview, Lizzo talked about interpolating Meredith Brooks’ 1997 hit of the same name. She commented, “I want the whole world to know that this is [Brooks’] record.”
She further wanted to recognize Brooks because she worried things “would’ve gotten lost in translation a little bit.”
Lizzo added, “I was like, ‘This is Lizzo’s version.’ You know how it’s like, ‘Taylor’s Version?’ It’s like, ‘Bitch (Lizzo’s Version).'”
Comparing Herself to Swift

Lizzo has also referenced Taylor Swift and compared herself to the 14-time Grammy winner in the past.
One particular instance was when Lizzo shared the similarities between the two artists’ approach to relationships and breakups in their songs.
During a 2022 appearance on The Breakfast Club, she said, “I’m Black Taylor Swift. I really am, I’m trifling.”
She added, “I don’t talk to badly about [an ex’s] character, it’s just what he do. I’ll be like, ‘He’s a good person, but this is what he did. Am I tripping?’ They’d be like, ‘You’re not tripping, you’re not tripping.”
Her latest album, 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶, releases on June 5th.
