Kim Kardashian is taking a break from the California Bar Exam.
The announcement comes after failing last year’s test and studying for the occupation for years.
Taking a Break
Insiders have shared with TMZ that Kim Kardashian skipped the February bar exam and that she has no plans to try again in July.
Since the state only offers two opportunities each year, she won’t be able to take it at all in 2026 and will have to try again in 2027.
Sources say she has chosen to wait to test again, and the next attempt wouldn’t be until at least 2027. As of now, Kardashian has not confirmed a timeline for taking the test again.
If she wants to take the test in February 2027, she must apply for the exam by January 4th of next year.
Failing the Bar Exam

Kardashian has already taken the bar exam once, and it didn’t go as planned. She revealed failing the bar exam last November after her July attempt.
She wrote on her Instagram Story, “Well… I’m not a lawyer yet. I just play a very well-dressed one on TV. Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”
While she brushed off the haters in November, December had a different theme. She admitted the failure broke her “confidence.”
“I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn’t feel good about it. I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while,” Kim Kardashian told Time Magazine.
“You get the results on a Friday, and I knew Sunday morning they were going to be live on the internet. So I wanted to mention it first and let people know that it didn’t go my way.”
The Baby Bar Exam
The reality star has only taken the State of California Bar Exam one time. However, she’s taken the California “baby bar” exam several times.
The smaller exam is required for entrance to her legal apprenticeship program. Kardashian failed three times before she passed on her fourth try in 2021.
In December 2021, she celebrated the milestone by writing on Instagram, “”OMFGGGG I PASSED THE BABY BAR EXAM!!!!!””
She added, “Looking in the mirror, I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection.”
Struggles Studying
Kim Kardashian has been open about her struggles and her studying process in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She felt like she was having a “mental breakdown” due to the excessive studying required for the test.
“I’m absolutely gonna cry cause it’s f–king exhausting,” adding, “I threw my back out, and it’s, like, every time I think I get to another step, something pulls me back.”
In another instance, she shared the difficulty and her willingness to push through.
“For anyone who doesn’t know my law school journey, know this wasn’t easy or handed to me,” she revealed.
“I failed this exam 3 times in 2 years, but I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!!”
Passion for Law

Kardashian’s desire to be in the law field comes from nowhere strange. She looks up to her father, Robert Kardashian, who famously defended OJ Simpson’s footsteps.
She shared with Hong Kong Vogue in 2022, “Spending time with my father at his office definitely influenced me.” She added the world has “been in [her] soul for years.”
The actress wants to pursue Criminal Justice Reform, though her path to get there isn’t easy.
It’s almost unheard of to pass the bar without going to law school, but Kardashian is trying it with the help of a four-year California Law Office Study Program, which she finished in May 2025.
