Nicole Kidman is finally speaking out about her split from Keith Urban since finalizing her divorce three months ago.
Along with how she’s doing, Kidman discusses future plans, her children, and staying in her Nashville home.
How Kidman is Doing
Nicole Kidman sat down with Variety for an all-encompassing interview, published on March 11th.
When asked if she’s “doing all right,” Kidman replied, “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good.”
“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that,” she added. “Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”
Kidman and Urban share two daughters: Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (15).
2025 vs. 2026
Nicole Kidman is known for her hit appearances on screen, with Variety quipping, “every year is probably the year of Nicole Kidman.” However, the actress slightly disagrees.
“Well, not last year,” she pointed out. “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.” When asked if she was “ready to come out of [her] shell,” Kidman said, “Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go.’ I have Practical Magic with [Sandra Bullock]. I’ll be in full witch mode.”
The actress will reprise her role as witchy sister Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the 90s cult classic. It premieres on September 11th.
Kidman also stars in the screen adaptation of Scarpetta, streaming now on Prime Video, and is filming season three of Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness.
Focusing on Her Kids
When asked about directing movies, Kidman pivoted and said she wants to spend more time with her daughters instead.
“I’ve circled it. But then I’ve been too busy or too tired. There are still things I want to do as an actor. I want to do theater again. … But I’m interested in off Broadway and even some regional theater at some point, like in Chicago. … Right now is not the time for me to do that; I’ve got to take care of these kids. That’s sort of in my ‘Future’ folder. I’ve got to fill this summer with kid stuff.”
Staying in Nashville
Some ex-spouses may move away after a divorce, but Nicole Kidman is staying right where she is in Nashville.
“We have our life here. [I’ve been] part of the city and community for 20 years. It’s my home.” She added that she was “meant to go there” and is “very, very happy to live there.”
The biggest reason, of course, is that Nashville is where she raised her daughters. Taking them away from that is not her goal.
The Divorce
People previously reported on Kidman’s divorce filing, stating the former couple “experience marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
Unlike other divorces, Kidman and Urban had an agreement on how to divide their personal belongings. They settled and finalized the divorce in January.
In the settlement, Kidman was granted primary custody of their daughters at their Nashville home, with Urban getting “parenting time” every other weekend unless otherwise stipulated.
