The finalized divorce paperwork for the celebrity split between Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban shows that one is getting significantly more time with their children than the other.
Kidman gets their children for 306 days a year, while Urban only gets 59 days. It’s far from the equal time Urban originally asked for.
People Magazine reported that the Tennessee parenting plan also includes the timings of when the children can stay with their dad. This is every other weekend, from 10 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
It is also disclosed that both parents share major decision-making, with language focused on urging stability and cooperation. It even talks about not speaking badly about each other or families.
The settlement was filed and finalized on January 6, 2026. The original divorce filing by Kidman was late 2025.
Urban wanted equal time
The Express reported that Urban initially pushed for a 50/50 arrangement, but that request reportedly left Kidman distressed. They also say that Kidman went into a spiral because of the request.
Reality Tea highlights that this was the hardest part of the divorce, not money, not property, nor the public narrative. In what is described as a tense back and forth, with sources tying Kidman’s stance to an older wound from her 2001 divorce from Tom Cruise as part of the reaction.
During Kidman’s divorce to Tom Cruise, the custody outcome with her older kids later became painful and distant.
The truth is that the 306 and 59 day split appear one-sided, but there are real reasons.
The reality of schedules
In Cosmopolitan coverage, the arrangement actually centered on the idea that the girls need their mother more, at the age that they’re at. Urban also understood a courtroom fight might not go his way. Kidman and Urban have two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
Regardless of what child needs which parent more, in the Cosmo report, scheduling was also pointed to, and that explains in more detail as to why the decision went the way it did.
Specifically a touring musician’s calendar is hard to square with a true 50/50 split. Whereas Kidman’s work can be structured differently and includes the option to have the kids on set with her.
Reality Tea echoed that same practical angle, adding that Urban’s touring schedule complicated his 50/50 push.
The conclusion was that Kidman was able to keep a steadier home routine when she isn’t filming. In other words, the agreement reads less like a morality judgment and more like logistics winning out.
The money was not a dispute
Normally a divorce is all about the assets, but the money aspect of this divorce was straightforward. Both parties waived the rights to child support and spousal support. Each is responsible for their own legal fees and expenses.
It is also noted that Kidman keeps the family’s primary Nashville home. Urban has already moved into a place nearby.
I’ve followed celebrity news long enough to remember when divorces were mostly whispered about, then wrapped in a polite statement. Now we’re reading court filings and timelines like it’s a flight schedule. The positive is that it comes to an end and the children can get some stability.
