Carrie Underwood Says She Prefers Real Life at Home Over Celebrity Life

While she may be known to all of us as a major superstar, Carrie Underwood is just a small-town Oklahoma girl at heart.

The singer has recently shared some of her favorite pastimes, from being with her family on their farm, cleaning, and even a few “granny hobbies” sprinkled in.

While it may be slightly unexpected, fans can connect even more with Underwood, who’s always been a country girl.

Enjoying Everyday Tasks

Carrie Underwood revealed her hobbies and lifestyle during an interview with ABC’s On the Red Carpet. She claims that the glitz and glamor of celebrity life is not real, but the mundane is.

“This entertainment world that we live in is not reality. Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking … and that’s a world I love,” she said.

She continues to say that an entertainer’s world is “very compartmentalized,” and often, you see just a small piece of what a superstar does in their life.

For Carrie Underwood, that means cleaning and being around the house, which she prefers as those mundane routines anchor her during busy performance seasons.

“Granny Hobbies”

So what happens when she’s not on set, singing, or being with her family? Carrie Underwood is all about “granny hobbies.”

During the interview, Underwood explained, “I have granny hobbies. I love to crochet. I love to do a little birdwatching, and I have sourdough, and I make my own kombucha, and I love to grow hot peppers and make my own fermented hot sauce.”

She has shared many of her exploits on social media, with a recent post highlighting Ezekiel bread she made using grains she milled herself.

Underwood also wears crocheted pieces she’s made in the past, with one of her American Idol shirts being one of them. Last May, she posted a picture with the caption, “Got to wear my tomato top yesterday to the Idol set! I’m so happy how it turned out. I just kept it really simple and added a ruffle at the bottom.”

Prizing Her Family Life

Carrie Underwood’s mundane life is centered around her former NHL star husband, Mike Fisher, and two kids, Isaiah and Jake.

The family lives outside of Nashville, with lots of land for the boys to explore. Plus, Underwood can grow a garden and keep animals. True fans will know just how much she loves animals, and she is currently raising chickens and sheep.

Plus, the singer sometimes even serenades her animals! It’s this balance of family life and celebrity events that keeps Underwood feeling normal amidst her stardom.

Upcoming Music Commitments

Carrie Underwood is currently in her second season of judging American Idol, helping the next generation of young stars.

She has not announced a full tour. However, she does have a scattered calendar of live events during the summer and early fall. Two are planned in June, two in August, and one in September at the Velocity Music Festival in Iowa.
