Actress Aubrey Plaza is expanding her world by one, announcing she is pregnant with her first child.
The news comes just over a year after the death of her husband, Jeff Baena.
Plaza is Pregnant
Plaza is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott, her rep confirmed to People. The baby is due this fall.
The source stated, “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” adding that “they feel very blessed.”
Relationship with Abbott
Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott have not previously confirmed their romantic partnership; however, they have collaborated on several projects together.
They co-starred in the 2020 film Black Bear and worked together on the Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023.
Abbott is currently starring on Broadway in the revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, alongside Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.
Baby Bump Under Wraps
Last month, Plaza decided to keep her baby bump disguised while sitting in the front row at Paris Fashion Week.
At the Loewe show, the actress wore an oversized leather jacket, red sweater, and booties. She also donned a loose-fitting look at the Lacoste presentation, with an orange polo and mini skirt.
Dealing with Husband’s Death
Aubrey Plaza’s pregnancy news comes just over a year after her husband, Jeff, died in January 2025 by suicide in their Los Angeles-area home.
The two were separated since September 2024, after three years of marriage.
Plaza and Baena met in 2011 and secretly married in 2021, working on projects such as Life After Beth, Joshy, The Little Hours, and Spin Me Round.
When Baena passed, Plaza’s rep stated it was an “unimaginable tragedy” and asked for privacy.
Months later, Plaza still felt the pain. She shared her grief with Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast in August.
When asked how she was navigating a “terrible, terrible, tragic year,” Plaza said, “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you.”
“Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m OK, but it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”
She went on to compare her grief to the 2025 film The Gorge, stating, “There’s like a cliff on one side and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s gorge in between.”
“I swear when I watched it—I was like, that feels like what my grief is like—or what grief could be like,” Plaza shared.
“Where at all times there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”
