Apple Turnovers Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup of sugar (50g)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon (5ml)
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (15ml)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar (15ml)

Apple Turnovers Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, add apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  4. Cook for 10 minutes until softened. If the mixture looks too juicy, stir in cornstarch and cook 1 minute more.
  5. Let the filling cool once cooked.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 8 equal rectangles or squares.
  7. Spoon a mound of apple filling onto one side of each piece, leaving a border. Fold over to make a pocket and press edges to seal, use a fork to crimp.
  8. Place turnovers on the baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle coarse sugar if you like. Cut a small slit on top for steam to release.
  9. Bake for 25 minutes, until puffed and golden.
  10. Let them cool for a few and drizzle any sauces or toppings.
