Banana Chocolate Chip Bars
Credit: FamilyProof

I’ve been a fan of banana bread devotee as long as I can remember. I look for excuses to bake a loaf just for the smell alone. But these Banana Chocolate Chip Bars have quickly earned a spot right beside my favorite recipe. They’re everything I love about banana bread… sweet, moist, and full of ripe banana flavor baked into soft, chewy squares with rich chocolate chips in every bite. Even better, this one-pan recipe is an easy banana dessert you can pull together in under an hour, perfect for satisfying a craving or sharing with friends.

Ingredients

  • 115g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 100g (1/2 cup) granulated sugar
  • 50g (1/4 cup) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 190g (1 1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 150g (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix well with a whisk until smooth.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture, and whisk until fully combined.
  4. Stir in the mashed bananas until evenly incorporated.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the banana mixture using a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly with a spatula.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting them into squares.
