Family road trips remain one of the most popular vacation options in the U.S. According to New York University’s U.S. Family Travel Survey, 68 percent of American adults took their kids on a family road trip in the past year. Another 63 percent of the respondents also said that they would like to take their kids on an epic road trip in the future. These trips are not only fun and exciting, but they can also become an educational adventure as well. By considering the following hacks during the planning stages, you can make sure that your next family road trip will be truly unforgettable for everyone involved.

Choose The Right Vehicle

There are lots of beautiful roads across the country, and there’s also quite a diverse selection of cars that you can choose to cruise along these highways. Since you are taking your family with you during the trip, you need to make sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable inside the car. To have the safest and most comfortable ride, you can choose between a compact SUV or a crossover vehicle for your road trip. If you plan to take everyone in along a tougher terrain, the compact SUV is probably the better option. But for city driving, a crossover could be a lighter but equally spacious option.

Plan Your Route

When planning a road trip across the U.S., you will never run out of destination options. Actually narrowing down which spots you want to go to can prove to be a little overwhelming. To make sure that everyone will have fun during the trip, you need to plan ahead before you take on the road. Ask each member of the family for suggestions of where they would like to go and what they would like to see, and plan your route based on their hopes and preferences.

Pack All The Necessities

You will be probably be driving for hundreds of miles without access to conveniences during a long road trip. That is why it is very important to bring everything that you need in case something happens in the middle of the night or in a place where your family is unable to ask for assistance. Pack as much food and drinks as you can to keep everyone nourished. You can bring snacks, candy bars, and fruit options. A fully-equipped toolbox and emergency kit are also needed to keep everyone safe while you’re out on the road.

Going on a road trip can be one of the best bonding experiences for families. It will give you more time to spend with each other as you bask in the beauty of the incredible scenery along the way. As long as you know how to prepare for the long trip ahead, you will definitely have a luxurious road trip that your family will always remember.
