About 90 million dogs live in U.S. households, and while their companionship is admired nationwide, different states prefer different breeds.

Hoodline took a look at Google Trends data for the top 50 most popular breeds in the country, and analyzed each state’s breed-related search results, deeming the breed that generated the most search interest by region as that state’s “Most Popular Dog Breed.”

Turns out, the French bulldog wins human hearts in Florida and Illinois, while Texans fall for the Doberman pinscher. In Michigan, the Newfoundland dog takes the first position, while in California the Maltese leads the way. And in Vermont, golden retrievers are running ahead, while in Arizona dog lovers may prefer a pug.

When it comes to the nationwide results, Rottweilers come in third, the French bulldog gets the second position, and the Doberman pinscher leads the pack across all U.S. states, according to search data.
