Victoria Beckham breaks silence amid the family’s ongoing rift with son, Brooklyn Beckham, for the firt time publicly.
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Thursday, April 16, Victoria, 51, was asked about her eldest son.
The magazine says that she did “not reply with his name,” she did say: “I think that we’ve always – we love our children so much. We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be.”
The Spice Girl alum continued, saying, “And you konw, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
She also told the outlet that her and her retired soccer star husband are “trying to do the best [they] can” to parent their children into adulthood. “Being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh, I mean, it’s very different from having little children.”
This is the first time Victoria has spoken about the estrangment since Brooklyn accused her and David Beckham of trying to sabotage his relationshp with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham and spreading “countless lies” in a series of explosive posts on his Instagram Story back in January.
In his Stories, according to People, Brooklyn said: “I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn said.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Brooklyn apparently began to distance himself from the Beckham family after marrying his wife, 32-year-old actress and model, in 2022.
According to Brooklyn, his parents went beyond just engineering toxic media narratives and pressuring him regarding name rights. Brooklyn claimed Victoria danced “inappropriately” on him after hijacking his and Peltz’s first dance as a married couple.
David Beckham spoke up about this back in Janauary, saying “I have always spoken about social media dn the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” he said during an appearance on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box. “I’ve tried to do the same with my children, the educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
“You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well,” he continued.
A source spoke to People about the sitatuion, saying “David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward… David loves his kids. They are his everting.” Despite that, Brooklyn has made his stance clear on the matter.
