Antarctica has a range in the late Queen’s honor, dubbed the Queen Elizabeth Range. Nearby glaciers are named in honor of Princess Anne and the Prince of Wales. A plateau was named in honor of the former Prince Andrew in 1962, two years after he was born. According to The New York Post, he may soon lose that honor.

New Zealand’s Geographic Board is considering renaming the Prince Andrew Plateau after his links to Jeffrey Epstein came to light. Since then, King Charles stripped Prince Andrew of his royal titles in 2025. He is now known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. He and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, were removed from their longtime home.

While the board briefly considered naming the plateau after another royal in place of the ex-Prince Andrew, the suggestion was shut down. The Antarctic Naming Committee has been encouraged to choose an entirely new name or leave the landmark nameless.

While a final decision has not been reached, the board is expected to revisit the issue later this year.

The former Prince has been arrested and under investigation multiple times. Not only was he accused of providing Jeffrey Epstein with classified information, but additional accounts of sexual misconduct, corruption, and fraud.

Authorities are investigating his alleged inappropriate behavior at the 2002 Royal Ascot, as well as the claims of him raping Virginia Giuffre when she was a minor, per Page Six.

According to Andrew Lownie, the ex-Royal has “an extraordinary sense of entitlement.” After decades of this behavior, the former Prince’s actions are resulting in consequences.

The Prince Andrew Plateau name change was originally suggested by a member of the public. It was concluded that decisions regarding royal names typically require approval from Buckingham Palace.
