Kathie Lee Gifford Slammed The View: ‘There’s a Viciousness’

On Monday’s episode of the Tomi Lahren Is Fearless podcast, TV personality, 72, Kathie Lee Gifford slammed The View, saying that it’s a lot meaner now.

Gifford brought up the popular daytime talk show when the host asked if she felt the public was more divided now.

“There’s just more of us – and we’re meaner now,” she said. “People, at least, would pretend to have some manners. Now, there’s a viciousness.”

“I mean, I used to be able to go on The View and talk to Joy [Behar] and Whoopi [Goldberg] and a lot of the other people there — Debbie Matenopoulos and I are still good pals — and never had a problem, you know, with anybody because they weren’t trying to… I don’t proselytize everything.”

Gifford continued, saying, “I share my faith, but I don’t say, ‘You’re going to go to hell if you don’t.’ I don’t do that, you know? I want people to have a little bit more heaven in their life than hell.”

Host Tomi Lahren asked if she thought it would be the same now if she were to go on The View today, to which Grifford brought up the “viciousness” of the show, and said it was “sad” the way the programming has changed. “I mean, everybody seems like they’re just miserable people now,” Gifford said.

“I may make people miserable just talking the way we’re talking, but nobody will ever confuse me with a miserable person, right? I have joy personified.”

From co-hosting the fourth hour of Today with Hoda Kotb for 11 years before departing in 2019, Gifford is no stranger to talk shows and the environment.

Currently, the hosts of The View include Goldberg, Behar, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. Recently, The View has made headlines for heated on-air spats as well as behind-the-scenes drama between the co-hosts.

Along with the headlines and Gifford’s opinions, former co-host Meghan McCain shared that she quit the show after a brutal comment from Behar when she came back from maternity leave in 2021. “I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, ‘Nobody missed you, we didn’t miss you, you shouldn’t have come back,'” McCain recalled on The Commentary Magazine Podcast in 2022.
