Over the years, our family has made a tradition of finding great pizza in every city we visit, sometimes it’s a local legend, other times it’s a reliable chain we know will please everyone.

Pizza is one of those foods that always brings us together. Whether we’re on a cross-country road trip, looking for a cozy Friday night dinner somewhere, or just in the mood for something cheesy and delicious, there’s a pizza spot out there that’ll hit the spot.

Here are 10 of our favorite pizza chains and restaurants from around the country. Some are famous, some are nostalgic, and all are worth a stop.

Pizza Lucé (Minneapolis, MN)

This one’s personal. I grew up with Pizza Lucé, and it still holds a special place in my heart. It’s a Twin Cities staple with a creative, inclusive menu.

If you’re looking for bold topping combos, vegan options, and crusts that hit the sweet spot between chewy and crispy, this is a winner. The “Ruby Rae” pizza (with pesto, feta, and spicy sausage) is a must-try, but honestly, I go back just for the garlic cheese bread and the vibe.

If casual and quirky is what you’re looking for, then consider this a go-to destination for pizza.

Giordano’s (Chicago, IL)

When you want a deep dish that doubles as a meal and a memory, head to Giordano’s. Their stuffed pizza is like no other (and I’m not being overly dramatic).

When in Chicago, this is the go-to pizza destination. It’s layers of cheese, sauce, and a flaky crust that may seem like it takes an age to bake (it doesn’t, but I’m often drooling when I get to Giordano’s) are totally worth the wait.

My family and I first tried it on a cold wet day in Chicago, and we’ve gone every time since. It’s the ultimate comfort food. Just be warned: one slice goes a long way.

Blaze Pizza (Nationwide)

Fast, fresh, and my family-approved. Blaze is the go-to for build-your-own pizza lovers, which is often essential when young picky kids are in tow.

That’s the beauty of Blaze, your kids can customize their own mini pies (no more arguing over toppings), and everything bakes in just a few minutes in their blazing-hot oven.

This is the go-to destination if you’ve got loud kids wanting food. It’s perfect for busy weeknights or road trip lunch stops when everyone’s got different cravings.

Mellow Mushroom (Various U.S. Locations)

A funky, feel-good chain that mixes pizza with personality. Mellow Mushroom is like a pizza place and an art installation had a baby, and it works.

We discovered one on a trip through Georgia, and now we keep our eyes peeled for their locations. The crust is thick and soft, the menu leans playful, and the atmosphere is a win for families with kids who like their dinner with a side of color and creativity.

Pizzeria Bianco (Phoenix, AZ)

This is one of those spots that lives up to the hype. Tucked into a historic building in downtown Phoenix, Pizzeria Bianco serves up wood-fired pies that are fresh, simple, and kind of life-changing. The Margherita pizza; light crust, fresh mozzarella, fragrant basil, was one of the best bites we’ve had on the road. There’s usually a wait, but it’s a good excuse to slow down and explore the area.

New Haven-style “apizza” is its own thing. Charred crust, thin base, and no-frills toppings pack a punch. Pepe’s, as locals call it, is a classic, and the White Clam Pizza (yes, with clams!) is unexpectedly great. We stopped in on a drive through Connecticut and left converted. It’s old-school in the best way.

Buddy’s Pizza (Detroit, MI)

Square pie fans, this one’s for you. Buddy’s is the birthplace of Detroit-style pizza, with a thick, crispy crust and sauce spooned on top of the cheese. It’s hearty, it’s crunchy on the edges, and it’s incredibly satisfying. Our visit to Buddy’s was the definition of “pizza night done right.”

California Pizza Kitchen (Nationwide)

CPK helped make California-style pizza a thing, and we’re grateful. Their BBQ Chicken Pizza is a house favorite, but the whole menu leans fresh, flavorful, and a little adventurous (Thai chicken, wild mushroom, even cauliflower crust). It’s a nice pick when we want to feel like grown-ups while still keeping it kid-friendly.

Lombardi’s (New York, NY)

The OG. Lombardi’s is America’s first licensed pizzeria, dating back to 1905. It’s in Little Italy, and yes, it gets touristy, but the pizza is still worth a visit. Thin crust, coal-fired, and best eaten folded. If you’re ever in NYC, make this a stop. Our kids still talk about the pepperoni slices the size of their faces.

Pizza Hut (Nationwide)

A comfort classic. Whether you grew up with the red roof dine-in restaurants or just grab takeout for movie night, Pizza Hut is iconic for a reason. Their pan pizza has that golden, buttery crust that reminds me of high school sleepovers and reward coupons from the library. Sometimes, you just need the classics.

Pizza is more than food it’s an experience, a ritual, and often, a shared memory. Whether you’re a thin crust purist or a deep-dish devotee, there’s something magical about gathering around the table with a few pies and the people you love.
