Costco’s bakery section is about to get a major upgrade, and customers are excited for this smoother process.
This year, Costco members will be able to order cakes digitally with a new update in the Costco app. This is a huge change that will make ordering so much easier. Customers can start ordering custom cakes from the comfort of their home with a few clicks of a button.

Not only will customers get to order custom cakes, but they can also order deli trays. This will not only alleviate headaches for many shoppers but also make hosting big parties and gatherings that much easier.
The update was revealed in December during Q1 2026 earnings call by CEO Ron Vachris, who cited customer feedback as his motivation for this change.
“Many of the things that we’ve heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state,” the CEO explained, “and we’re seeing great adoption right out of the chute.”
Currently, the existing process for ordering a cake requires members to visit a warehouse, fill out a form, and drop it in a box in the bakery section. They would then come back on the date of their choice and pick up their cake.
Obviously, that process is extremely outdated and made it nerve-wracking since there was no verification. That being said, this new digital process, while Vachris admitted it might be a “little bit clunky,” will surely make ordering a more comfortable process.

2026 sees a lot of changes to the warehouse, not just Costco’s bakery section. Along with the updated app to make ordering smoother, Costco is also cracking down on non-members using the food court, requiring members to scan their membership card before ordering any food.
Along with that, they’re implementing more technology at the front of their stores as well. Customers will soon be able to check out using unique technology through the Costco app, removing the need to use a checkout station entirely.
Hopefully, customers will experience a smooth, stress-free process during these new changes. And if you want to stay in the know about upcoming changes at Costco, keep checking back here for more information.
