After the security debacle that made Jude Law’s preteen daughter cry, Chappell Roan doubles down in a new statement, defending her innocence.
The singer, 28, has received huge backlash after footballer Jorginho claimed that his step-daughter Ada, 1, was threatened by Chappell’s bodyguard on Saturday after she spotted the star in the same hotel in Brazil.
Apparently, Jorginho’s wife, Catherine Harding, who shares Ada with her ex-partner Jude Law, claims the ‘aggressive’ security guard ‘berated’ her and her daughter after the child walked past the pop star’s table.
On Sunday, Roan denied the explosive allegations that the security team made Ada cry, saying, “I’m just gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard, who is not my personal security,” the singer said on her Instagram Stories.
“I didn’t even see a woman and a child, like, no one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well.”
Roan claimed that she did not instruct the security official to “go up and talk” to the mother and daughter. “I did not, [and] they did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything.”
“It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there’s no action even taken, like, that’s so not what I stand behind.”

While Roan has been known to be strict about interactions, especially with paparazzi. But she also has rigid boundaries between herself and the public, including her fans, calling people out constantly if she feels uncomfortable.
Now, according to the Daily Mail, a representative for the pop singer said, on Monday: “Chappell holds her own teams to the highest standards.” The Grammy winner has “zero tolerance for aggressive behavior toward her and her fans.”
According to the spokesperson, the singer “was not aware of any interaction between this mother/daughter and a third-party security office.”
Not only have fans seemed shocked about the behavior, but Catherine Harding challenged Roan in a lengthy Instagram video on Sunday as well, one day after her husband called the performer out on his Story.
In the video, Harding cast doubt on Roan’s claims, saying she knew the security guard was not part of the hotel security but rather someone who “looks after artists.”
“Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know. Look, I would like to hope not, but at the same time, I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure, I guess, that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”
Harding continued, saying Ada “literally did not do anything, she just looked at her… she came back and said, ‘Mum, I don’t know if it’s her.’ Because obviously she looked like… her costumes and everything… she looks a little bit different.”
While Roan has clarified that she doesn’t hate Ada and wants to make it clear this wasn’t her intention, it seems her strict boundaries have caused some confusion amongst security.
Because of the circulating headlines, Roan was banned from the Todo Mundo no Rio music event in Rio de Janeiro by the mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere.
