Starbucks kicked off the holiday season on Friday, releasing its lineup of highly-anticipated holiday cups. The collection features four super festive designs, designed with traditional red and green colors, as well as motifs that reflect the gift-giving season.
The theme this year is “Carry the Merry,” and the designs are called Ribbon, Dot, Sparkle and Brand Wrap. “This year's holiday design brings forward all the joyful elements of the holiday season in ribbons of Starbucks greens and a jolly red like a cozy holiday sweater,” the company said in a press release.
The coffee company also released its seasonal drinks, including Peppermint Mocha, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, and Eggnog Latte. Yum!
“Our thought behind the cups this year was about people carrying them out in the world as messengers of joy,” explained Jeff Wilkson, creative director for Starbucks. Joy is no doubt something we could all use a more of in 2020.
And although the company does not mention Christmas, specifically, the cheery designs clearly represent the holiday. So it's likely the 2020 holiday-themed designs will draw less criticism than in years past.
Starbucks has been accused of waging a “war on Christmas,” after a series of cups that did not symbolize the holiday to fans’ standards. Previous years' cups featured snowflakes and winter scenes, and in 2015, the cup was plain red.

Oh, and Starbucks is also giving away a free collectible red holiday cup to customers who order a handcrafted holiday beverage on November 6 at participating stores in the U.S.
