What is traditional Easter food?
Traditionally, the Easter dinner consisted of ham, potatoes, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, and dinner rolls. Everyone has their traditions from their family, so everyone’s dinner doesn’t look the same. Some people roast lamb or chicken instead of ham, depending on who is cooking and if any allergies in the family prevent them from cooking certain things.
What should I bring to Easter dinner?
We suggest asking the person who is cooking what you should bring. That way, it’s one less thing they have to cook themselves or go out and get. It is also the best way to ensure that there is nothing you shouldn’t bring because of allergies. Ask if anybody is allegoric to anything to ensure you don’t accidentally get something they can’t enjoy as everyone else can.
It is usually suggested to bring a dessert and since its Easter, why not bring a carrot cake or another amazing Easter-themed dessert? Other ideas could be brunch dishes to serve after Easter mass or dinner side dishes.

1. Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole
You can’t go wrong with this Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole because kids love tater tots. And who else doesn’t?
Ingredients:
- 1 bag of frozen Tater Tots
- Butter, for the baking dish
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1-pound spicy bulk breakfast sausage
- 1 medium onion, very finely diced
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup half-and-half
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
- 4 large eggs
- 1 red bell pepper, very finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, very finely diced
- 2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup grated pepper jack cheese
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Steps:
- Get a 9 by 13-inch backing dish, butter it first, then line up the tater tots in the dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, you will add the onion and sausage and cook them. While cooking, break the sausage up with the spoon you are using. Let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes until browned and cooked through. Let it cool once done, then add it to the tater tots to cover the dish.
- Mix the milk, half-and-half seasoned salt, cayenne, both cheeses, eggs, bell peppers, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
- Once mixed, pour over the tots, then add the rest of the cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil and then refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350, and you will bake for 25 minutes.
- After 25 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking until the cheese is bubbly and brown cook for another 20 to 25 minutes.
- Once done, cut up into squares, and it is ready to be served.
2. Sautéed Sugar Snap Peas
Try these sauteed sugar snap peas for something green on the table that the kids will have no problem eating.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 8 oz sugar snap peas strings removed
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt

- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
Steps:
- In a large pan, you will heat butter over medium heat until the butter starts to foam.
- Add the bag of snap peas and stir fry it for about 1 minute.
- Add in the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Keep constantly stirring for 2 minutes until the pods seem tender and crisp.
- After 2 minutes, please turn off the heat, and it is ready to be served.
3. Ham & Green Onion Biscuits

Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
- Dash pepper
- 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup finely chopped fully cooked ham
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 3/4 cup 2% milk
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 450.
- In a large bowl, you will whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar, dash of pepper, and garlic salt.
- Add the butter and mix it up till it looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ham and green onions next.
- Then add the milk and stir well till it is moistened.
- Turn the dough on a floured surface, and you will gently knead it 8 to 10 times.
- Roll dough to ½ in thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. Don’t have one; you can use a cup that is 2-1/2 in on the open side.
- Place them about 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
- They will bake for 10 to 12 minutes until you see them golden brown on top.
- After that time, they are ready to be served warm.

4. Marshmallow Easter Eggs
Here is a sweet treat that the kids can help you make the marshmallow Easter eggs. Kids will love this because they are pretty, chocolatey, and easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 25 cups all-purpose flour (about 8 pounds)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup, divided
- 3/4 cup hot water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1-pound dark chocolate candy coating, melted
- Candy coating disks, multiple colors, melted
Steps:
- In a 13×9 pan, spread 7 cups of flour in each and 4 cups in 9 in a square pan.
- Carefully wash the egg and then press the egg in the flour to form an impression. Do this 35 times about 2 inches apart.
- In a small bowl, take the gelatin and sprinkle a little over cold water.
- Mix the sugar, ½ cup corn syrup, and hot water in a large saucepan. Then bring it to a bowl over medium heat. Keep constantly stirring until a candy thermometer reads 238 degrees or it is at a softball stage.
- Please remove it from the heat and stir the rest of ½ cup of corn syrup.
- In a large bowl, add the gelatin 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat it at high speed until the candy is thick and lukewarm after 10 minutes. Then add the vanilla.
- Spoon the gelatin mixture into the egg depressions, sprinkle flour, and let it sit for 2-4 hours until set.
- Brush off any excess flour.
- Then dip each in the chocolate candy coating. Then place the flat side down on wax paper. Drizzle it with candy coating over the eggs.
- They are ready to be served and enjoyed.
5. Easter Egg Oreo Truffles
The kiddos can help make a nice dessert: these Easter egg Oreo truffles.
Ingredients:
- 1 package Oreos
- 1 pack of cream cheese, softened
- 1 pack of semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 tsp. coconut oil
- 1 bag of 250 g icing sugar
- 2 tbsp. corn syrup
- 3 tbsp. milk
- 3 food colorings
Steps:
- Crush cookies into fine crumbs. You can use a food processor or a blender.
- Add the crushed cookies to a medium bowl and mix in the cream cheese until it is evenly combined.
- Take a baking tray and line it with parchment paper. Use a cookie scoop and form into small egg-shaped balls and place them on the baking tray.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes until it is slightly hardened.
- In a medium bowl that is microwave safe, add the semisweet cholate chips and coconut oil. Microwave it for 30 seconds until it is melted.
- Dip the egg Oreo shape into the melted chocolate until coated and place it back on a baking tray.
- Refrigerate for 20 more minutes until it has hardened.
- In a medium bowl, combine the icing sugar, corn syrup, and milk and blend. In four bowls, divide the mixture and dye each one with the food coloring of your choice.
- Transfer the icing into small resealable bags or pip bags. If you have them cut a small hole in the corner of each bag.
- Then you can have the kids decorate each Easter egg however they like.
- Once finished, you can transfer them to a plate, ready to be enjoyed.
6. Ham and Cheese Sliders
These ham and cheese sliders are an excellent appetizer to have on your table to enjoy. What kid doesn’t love a ham and cheese sandwich? This just upgrades the taste a little more for the adults present.
Ingredients:
- 1 bag of a 12-count package of Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 3/4 pound cooked deli ham, thinly sliced
- 3/4 pound Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 2 teaspoons dried minced onion
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper, or to taste
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put aluminum foil in a 9 by 9-inch pan and spray with cooking spray.
- Using a knife, slice the rolls in half, evenly separating the bottoms from the tops.
- Place the bottom on the prepared pan.
- Evenly layer half of the over the rolls
- Evenly layer the cheese.
- Add the rest of the cheese on top.
- Add the top of the rolls.
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, add butter and melt for 1 minute.
- Add the mustard, poppy seeds, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, and whisk together.
- Evenly pour the butter mixture over the rolls slowly. You can use a spatula to spread it out more over the top.
- Cover the pan with aluminum foil and let them sit for 5 to 10 minutes at room temperature.
- Bake covered for 20 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Uncover and cook for 3 to 5 more minutes.
- Take them out and slice them into individual sliders, and they are ready to be served.
7. Parmesan Mashed Potatoes
These parmesan mashed potatoes from Taste of Home are an excellent side dish for your main course, whether ham, chicken, or lamb. The cheesy flavor will appeal to the kids at the table as well.
Ingredients:
- 5 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1-1/4 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 to 1 cup 2% milk, warmed
- 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
Steps:
- Place the potatoes in a stockpot and add water to cover them. Please bring them to a boil, then reduce the heat to cook uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes or until tender.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot to let them hot over low heat while you stir for 1 minute.
- Coarsely mash potatoes, then add the butter, sour cream, cheese, seasonings, and enough milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Stir in the parsley, and it is ready to be served and enjoyed.

8. Carrot Cake with Pecan Frosting
Here is a lovely carrot cake with pecan frosting recipe you can make that is an excellent dessert. Bonus points if you bake the cake into a shape of a carrot. Talk about a true Easter theme!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 can unsweetened crushed pineapple, undrained
- 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups shredded carrots which is 6 regular size carrots
Frosting
- 1 package reduced-fat cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3-3/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 325. In two 9-inch round pans, grease them, and then you will place parchment paper in them and grease the paper as well.
- Add the cream shortening and sugar until it is fluffy mix in the eggs in a large bowl, then add the pineapple.
- Whisk the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Slowly add to the cream mixture, then stir in the carrots.
- Transfer into the two round pans and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. When done, let it cool for 10 minutes before removing it to a wire rack and remove the paper to let it cool completely.
- Combine the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in a large bowl until blended. Slowly add the confectioner’s sugar until smooth, then add the pecans.
- Spread the frosting between the layers and on top of the cake and refrigerate until you are ready to serve and enjoy.
9. Loaded Deviled Egg
If you want an appetizer different from traditional deviled eggs, try these loaded deviled eggs from Tasty.
Ingredients:
- 12 eggs, hard-boiled
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup bacon, cooked, chopped
- ¼ cup fresh chives, finely chopped
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
Steps:
- Place the eggs in a pot filled with cold water until the eggs are fully covered.
- Bring the pot to a boil and then cover. After a few minutes, please remove it from the heat and let it rest for 12 minutes.
- Transfer the egg to a bowl of iced water for 3 minutes. Start to peel them and cut them in half. Put the egg yolks in a bowl and place the egg whites on a plate.
- Mix the yolks with bacon, sour cream, chives, cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper.

10. Spinach Artichoke Dip

- 1 box frozen chopped spinach thawed

- 1 can artichoke hearts drained and chopped

- 1 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
- package cream cheese softened

- ⅔ cup sour cream

- ⅓ cup mayonnaise

- teaspoons minced garlic
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix the spinach, artichoke hearts, and parmesan in a bowl.
- Mix the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic in another bowl.
- Add both bowls together and mix until they are well combined.
- Pour it into a baking dish about 8 by 8 inches. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Take out and serve with chips, crackers, or vegetables.
