It’s always a smart move to think ahead when it comes to your kids. Whether it be starting a savings account when they’re born, or putting aside other essentials for when they’re older.
In the case of Olivia Culpo, one aspect of planning comes in the shape of clothing, and we’re not talking about keeping a few choice outfits. This celebrity says she has an entire storage unit filled with major outfits from her life, kept for the day her little girl, Colette McCaffrey is old enough to care.
People Magazine reported that the 33-year-old saves everything, and that storage unit isn’t just a couple of boxes, it’s a fashion vault.
Who is Olivia Culpo?
It was back in 2012 when Culpo’s name hit the headlines. She won both Miss USA and Miss Universe, the first American to take the Miss Universe crown in 15 years at that time.
Now she’s in a different season of life, raising her first child with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
Culpo told People Magazine that “I have a whole storage unit for her with all of my wedding dresses, my pageant dresses, all of my really valuable keepsakes,” Culpo added that she wants everything to “be intact” for Colette when she’s older.
Inside that unit, the lineup includes the velvety gown she wore when she was crowned Miss Universe in Las Vegas, her custom wedding dress, plus other looks from the wedding celebration.
A main selection of outfits in the storage unit relates to the wedding attire. Vogue noted that Culpo approached her wedding style with a serious mindset, she described marriage as a “covenant” and said she wanted a dress that matched the weight of that commitment.
The magazine described her Dolce & Gabbana gown as a long-sleeve, crew-neck ballgown, paired with a long lace veil.
The importance of clothing
On the surface, this may seem all about high fashion, but it’s also about a little lingering regret. People Magazine reported Culpo said her mom cleared out her childhood closet, including Y2K-era pieces she wishes she still had, and now she’s determined not to repeat that story with her own child.
Meanwhile, Colette’s wardrobe is getting the same treatment. Multiple sources including People and BANG Premier confirmed Culpo has been packing away her daughter’s baby clothes as she outgrows them, sometimes it feels like she’s swapping bins every week.
When I was growing up, saving clothes meant something different. Normally a special outfit in the back of the closet my mother wouldn’t let me wear outside of big occasions. Still, I get the impulse, time moves fast, and this is one of the sweeter ways celebrity life shows its human side.
Hopes for a future athlete
Culpo told People she’s hoping Colette ends up sporty, and joked she “can’t ruin the McCaffrey gene pool,” pointing to her husband’s deep family line of athletes and his NFL success.
In the coverage, it was noted that Culpo recently took Colette to her first 49ers game. The baby even showed up in a custom football outfit while her dad greeted them on the sideline.
Still, the best part might be how simple Culpo sounds when she talks about what’s next, she says Colette feels “so brand new,” and she can’t wait for her little personality to show up more and more. In a celebrity world that can get messy fast, that’s a surprisingly comforting note to end on.
