Today is National Pizza Day — which is silly fun. And pizza totally deserves its own day because it is that fabulous.
Even more fabulous is pairing wine with your favorite slices.
My go-to is always a good Chianti, especially if theres a little meat on the pie. But if I grab a mushroom slice, I’ll pour a glass of Pinot Noir. Trust me on this one. You’ll be happy forever.
I must admit though that one of my favorite pairings is a slice of white pizza with mushrooms and truffles and a big ol’ glass of Chardonnay. It’ll blow you away.
But there’s tons of different slices these days. So when in doubt, pair your wine to match your toppings — especially if you like ham or pineapple on your slice.
A while back I got to spend time with one of the my favorite sommeliers, who I also get to call my friend. Jessica Norris is wine director at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, New York City and was recently included in Wine Enthusiast’s list of America’s Top 40 under 40 Tastemakers list.
