Before makeup, however, it’s always helpful to start with skincare. To depuff the eyes, celebrity makeup artist and content creator Delina Medhin suggests an eye cream with caffeine, like MAC Fast Response Eye Cream ($33). Kim Baker, celebrity makeup artist and founder of new color cosmetics brand, GLAMAZON Beauty recommends Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex ($66), “Every man and woman should have an eye cream,” Baker tells GLAM. “It’s much needed to assist with the preservation of the thinnest skin on the body which is the under eye area — and its self care!”
How To Make Your Eyes Look Bigger: Makeup Artists’ Best Tips
When it comes to makeup to make eyes look bigger, there are a few simple tricks that can make a world of difference. Both Baker and Medhin suggests lining the eyes with white, beige, or light peach eyeliner. “[This] gives the optical illusion of whiter and brighter and larger eyes,” Baker says. Medhin recommends Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil Collection (which can be used on the lips, eyes, and brows), as it has a variety of nude shades that work well for lining the eyes. Adding eyeshadow or liner underneath the eyes is also a great trick for making them stand out, she adds.
Emphasizing your eyelashes is a surefire way to make your eyes look bigger. “Curl your lashes to open up the eyes and use a waterproof mascara because they hold the curl of the lash better,” says Medhin. “I love the Shiseido Eyelash Curler ($22) and a mascara like Revlon So Fierce! ($9).”
If you want to boost your lash look even further, try adding some falsies. According to Baker, this is the best way to create a doe-eyed effect. “The key is to cut them in half and apply from the center to the end of your eyes,” she says. “This really opens the eye up and creates the look of a bigger eye. You can also use individuals but the key is to start in the center of your eye and apply to the end of your eye.”
How To Make Your Eyes Look Bigger: Tips From TikTok
As we well know by now, TikTok can be a vast source of beauty hacks. Creator @lil_xxtra recently shared a concealer trick (which she credits to esteemed makeup artist Wayne Goss) to help eyes appear bigger. In a side-by-side demonstration, she shows that applying concealer under the eyes and at the corners of the eyes while taking the excess product down the side of the nose to form a triangle shape (rather than just placing it directly under the eye) really opens up the eye.
In a more comprehensive tutorial, creator @YoungCouture shared a step-by-step eye makeup routine to make her eyes look bigger. She starts by lining her lower waterline with white eyeliner, then adds a light shade of eyeshadow to her lid, with a brown shade in her crease. Next, she creates a subtle winged liner before applying false lashes. The final step is to apply the brown eyeshadow on her lower lash line, and the look is complete.
