Palmistry, or as others call it, chiromancy (reading palms), has been around for centuries and is one of the hardest skills to learn. Palmistry is the art of analyzing the physical features of a person’s hand to decipher a person’s personality and character.

In the world of palm reading, the hands are known as portals that give the reader invaluable insight into a person. The basics of palm reading, the lifeline, and the love line are probably the easiest thing to start with.

In this article, we are going to show you the basic theory and techniques of reading palms, as well as tips and tricks that will allow you to have a more unique approach.

What is Palmistry?

Palmistry is believed to be dated all the way back to ancient India. From there it spread to China, Tibet, Persia, Egypt, and then Greece. During the Middle Ages, palmistry became obsolete, until the 19th century when occult practices became popular once again. It wasn’t until the mid-1900s that palmistry was heavily engrained into the US culture.

Some palm readers believe it is best to read both the left and the right hand. A person’s non-dominant hand reveals their natural personality and characteristics, while their dominant hand will show how they have actually put these characteristics to work. Together, this will tell you how this person is performing in this lifetime.

Just like learning astrology, palm reading takes lots of time and practice. When starting out you will want to focus on the basics and then work your way up to the harder more focused aspects of palmistry. Reading many books on the subject will allow you to develop a rich vocabulary that can be used when giving your readings.

How to Start Reading Palms?

To start reading palms, you are going to silently view the hand and make a couple of observations. What is the texture of the hand? Are the fingers manicured or dirty? Remember, no detail should be overlooked because everything has meaning. Ever watched Sherlock Holmes? He focuses on every little detail to show him exactly what has happened and what will possibly happen in the future.

Next, you are going to want to familiarize yourself with the shape of their hand and how it corresponds with the four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Then, you will look at the mounts and plains of the hand. You will notice that some areas are associated with life events, while other lines and creases tell a story about the future.

Understanding the Four Elements

When it comes to the four elements, each one has a specific meaning. Earth hands are identified by square palms and short fingers. They are often firm, solid, and fleshy. These people are known to be practical, logical, and grounded. The downside to this is that they can become consumed with their present problems which hinders their growth. Fire hands are identified by having long palms and short fingers.

These people are known to be very passionate but have a tendency to be driven by their desires. Air hands are identified by having square palms and long fingers. These people are highly intelligent but are easily distracted if not stimulated. Water hands are identified by having long palms and long fingers. People that have this type of hand are highly in tune with their emotions and often have psychic abilities. Unfortunately, this makes them extremely sensitive.

This is just a small portion of what there is to learn in regard to palmistry. There are millions of wonderful resources out there that can help you perfect your palm reading craft.
